New technique for serial sectioning of foraminifera
Benjamin N. Akpati
The use of biological microtomes in sectioning foraminiferal tests makes it possible to cut continuous serial sections from the same specimen for light microscopy and also offers a potential for use in cutting electron microscopy size sections. Epon 812 (mixture B) gives the most satisfactory results, producing smooth sections free of bubbles. The microtome technique is a more rapid, flexible, reliable, and even cheaper method of sectioning than the conventional grinding or the peel method.
