Revision of the Rhipidomellidae (Brachiopoda) and the affinities of Mendacella and Dalejina
A. J. Boucot, J. G. Johnson, and V. G. Walmsley
The family Rhipidomellidae (as distinct from family Dalmanellidae) includes the subfamily Rhipidomellinae, (late Ordovician through Permian) with genera Dalejina (synonym: Rhipidomelloides) Mendacella, Pseudodicoelosia, Strixella, Loganella, Aulacella, Thiemella, Rhipidomella, Perditocardinia; and the subfamily Heterorthinae (mid Ordovician to early Silurian) with genera Heterorthis, Diceromyonia, Svobodaina. Genera Reeftonia and Cariniferella are rejected from Rhipidomellidae; Levenea is removed from the Dalmanellidae to the Isoorthidae; Resserella, Fascicostella, Proschizophoria and Teichertina are removed from the Dalmanellidae. Svobodaina is the heterorthinid ancestor of the earliest rhipidomellinid (Mendacella).
