The type species is Pentamerus Weller and Davidson; the genus is distinguished by baso-medially conjunct brachial lamellae and criss-cross ornamentation. The single species occurs in the upper part of the Hopkinton Dolomite near Monticello, Iowa. The formation is late Llandovery to early Wenlock in age.
