Eurypterida; notes on the subgenus Hughmilleria (Nanahughmilleria) from the Silurian of New York

Erik N. Kjellesvig-Waering

Some of the specimens from the Middle Silurian Shawangunk grit of eastern New York figured by Clarke and Ruedemann (1912) as Hughmilleria shawangunk Clarke, 1907, are referred to H. (Nannahughmilleria) clarkei, n. sp., on the basis of intramarginal eyes, as distinct from the marginal eyes of H. shawangunk. H. phelpsae Ruedemann, 1919, from the Upper Silurian Vernon Shale at Pittsford, N. Y., is also assigned to H. (Nanahughmilleria), and the operculum is reinterpreted.
