Specimens of Athyris spiriferoides from the Ludlowville Formation of the Hamilton Group in western New York when etched in dilute hydrochloric acid revealed spiralia replaced by pyrite. These specimens provide a 3-dimensional picture helpful in understanding the location and form of the brachidium within the shell.
