The trepostome bryozoan genus Constellaria Dana 1846 is represented in early Champlainian (Chazyan) rocks by C. islensis n. sp. that occurs in dolomitic biosparite and dolomitic biosparrudite on Isle La Motte. This early species has the typical taxonomic characters of Constellaria. Thin section study of the type material of Stellipora antheloidea Hall, type species of Stellipora Hall, 1847, shows that Stellipora is a junior synonym of Constellaria.
