Virgianidae, a new family of pentameracean brachiopods

Arthur J. Boucot, and Thomas W. Amsden

The Late Ordovician and Early Silurian brachiopod genera Holorhynchus, Platymerella, and Virgiana are included in the new family Virgianidae. They are characterized by absent or poorly developed interareas, a well developed short spondylium, and abbreviated brachial apparatus.
