Didymograptus bifidus (J. Hall); its lectotpye, description, and occurrence

William B. N. Berry

A lectotype of Didymograptus bifidus (J. Hall) is selected and the species is described fully. The occurrence of specimens that can be assigned to that species is discussed. Many specimens in North America, the British Isles, Norway, and Sweden have been incorrectly identified as D. bifidus. Several of these have been examined in the present study. They are described and compared with D. bifidus.
