Changes in the chemical composition of pteropod shells after deposition on the sea floor

Al, Mg, Mn, Cu, and Sr concentrations in modern and fossil pteropod shells are examined. Post-depositional mixing on the sea floor is indicated by the presence of stained and unstained pteropod shells in the same layer of core material.
